Biography:
Pramod Pawar obtained an M.Sc. in Physics from the School of Physical Sciences, Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded, in 2009. He completed his doctoral studies and obtained a Ph.D. in Physics at the same university in August 2017, after which he joined IUCAA, Pune as a post-doctoral fellow for 3 years. He also qualified CSIR-NET, GATE, and SET exams.

AGN Multiwavelength Variability
Exploring the Mechanisms behind Multiwavelength Variability in Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN)
Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) are characterized by their intense and highly variable electromagnetic emission across a broad range of wavelengths, from radio to gamma-rays. This variability is thought to originate from the accretion disk and the innermost regions of the AGN, where the supermassive black hole resides. However, the precise mechanisms that drive this variability and the connection between the emission at different wavelengths remain poorly understood.
One of the key challenges in studying AGN variability is the lack of a comprehensive theoretical framework that can explain the observations across different wavelengths. Furthermore, the variability properties of AGN can be highly complex and non-linear, making it difficult to disentangle the underlying physical processes.
To address this problem, this research aims to investigate the mechanisms behind multiwavelength variability in AGN, with a focus on understanding the physical processes that drive the observed emission. Specifically, the research will explore the following questions:
- What are the properties of AGN variability across different wavelengths, and how are they correlated?
- What physical processes are responsible for the observed variability in AGN, and how do they relate to the accretion flow and the supermassive black hole?
- How do the variability properties of AGN vary with different types of AGN, such as radio-loud and radio-quiet AGN?
By addressing these questions, this research will contribute to our understanding of the fundamental physics of AGN and the mechanisms that govern their variability. This knowledge can have implications for our understanding of the role of AGN in galaxy formation and evolution, as well as for the interpretation of multiwavelength observations of AGN in the era of upcoming facilities such as the Vera C. Rubin Observatory and the Cherenkov Telescope Array.
